a few more states

between last wednesday and today we have been through 5 different states. and we spent more than just a few hours in 3 of them.

crazy? maybe. but you should have already known that about us.

last wednesday evening keane took his first plane ride. and he LOVED it. and i mean loved it. he thought looking out the window was fantastic, and made friends with all of the people around us. he spent most of his time squirming and laughing, eating puffs, and lounging out drinking apple juice. he moved so much that we had to pass him back and forth constantly for the duration of the two hour flight to st. louis.

he fake-laughed at the gentleman sitting next to peter - that's his new thing when he wants to engage someone - and played peek-a-boo with the people behind us.

he was still happy as a little clam when we touched down.

nathan and meg had pizza ready for us when we got to their house, and despite keane's refusal to go to sleep the first night, we had a good time getting a tour of their house, and catching up with them.

thursday morning keane, meg, and i went for a walk around their part of st louis, and we had a great time catching up and seeing some of the sights. it was about 75 and sunny on thursday, so we had lunch outside at crepes, etc. [delicious, let me tell you.] and keane made friends and observed all the people and the dogs that walked by.

meg was off to work in the afternoon, so keane and i hung out and watched a movie. when nathan and peter got back from work we took a drive around the huge park by their house. we were going to go to the zoo, but it had already reverted to the fall schedule, so it had closed right before we got there.

that evening the weather was still unbelievably gorgeous for august so we had dinner outside. pork barbecue, apple slaw [that i will be replicating], fresh fruit, wine, and great company. it doesn't get much better than that! keane also had a grand time playing with the string lights strung around the fence.

thankfully the little man fell asleep much quicker thursday night, and we chatted for a while before packing up and heading to bed. we had to be off early on friday morning, but thoroughly enjoyed our quick trip!

we made it home in charlotte around lunchtime on friday. peter went in to work, and i sort of unpacked, and began repacking. keane and i headed to the store to stock up on snacks and many frappuccinos for our trip to pittsburgh.

since we had little food in the house we opted to head out for mexican on friday night, then came home, put keane to bed, finished packing, and went to bed for a few hours.

yes, a few hours. we left for pittsburgh at 2:45 a.m. we stopped for breakfast at shoney's when keane woke up. he was so hungry, he couldn't even sit down to have his bottle.

and yes, he wore his jams into the restaurant. he's cute enough to pull it off {*wink*}
we got to my brother's house around 10:30, and celebrated zach's 5th birthday with a superhero party saturday afternoon. [peter took those pictures, and unfortunately i haven't gotten them from him yet...]

sunday we had lunch at the cheesecake factory to celebrate my dad's birthday, which was actually on saturday. we thoroughly enjoyed our food. in fact, i had enough that i was not remotely hungry until after 8:00 when we stopped for dinner on the way home.

prior to our dinner stop, we stopped at the tamarack and walked around, primarily so keane could be out of the car for a little bit.

he loved the play area!

with all of the stops we made it home a little after 11 p.m. sunday night. can you say whirlwind??

we were glad to be home in one piece, but both also wished for more time in st louis, and pittsburgh.

i also have to say -- happy birthday super zach! if keane makes it to five as quickly as you did, this momma is going to be in big trouble! we hope you have a fantastic birthday on the actual day today.

hope you've had a great start to your week!
